The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field teams opened their 2025-26 season with a pair of meets this past Saturday (Nov. 29), the York Holiday Open in Toronto and Bob Vigars Season Opener in London.
U of T captured six podium results inside the Toronto Track and Field Centre at York University on Saturday. This included a double-podium of Aiden Grout and William Tapodi in the men's 60m hurdles finishing second and third with times of 8.21 and 8.72. In the throws, Maakor Okai placed second in the women's shot put with a distance of 12.03m. The Blues also earned another pair of bronze as Valorisse Badie finished third in the women's 60m with a time of 7.82 and Claire Shambrook took third in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 9.15. Marking the sixth podium on the day for the Blues, the combination of Badie, Caitlin Peever, Shambrooke, and Arianna Malcolm took second in the women's 4x200m relay with a time of 1:45.30.
For the handful of Blues that traveled to London, the group delivered several strong podium performances in the annual season opener. A highlight performance for U of T, Moses Aidoo captured a first-place finish in the open men's 1km with a time of 2:33.46. Additional second and third place finishes for both Sarah White and Madison Sparkman in the 3km race saw times of 10:06.47 and 10:48.42. Andreji Prekajski also took second in the men's 3km race with a time of 8:44.18. In the weight throw, Lily Spoozak grabbed second place with a toss of 17.09m. Back on the track, Yiru Wang rounded out the podium performances with third in the women's 1500m, posting a time of 4:53.98.
Next up for the Blues is the Greg Page Relays, hosted by Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The two-day meet begins on Friday, Dec. 5.
