The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team fell 83-74 to the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday (Nov. 29) afternoon at Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House.
After finishing the first quarter with a one-point lead, U of T controlled the pace of play in the second quarter to jump out to an eight-point lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Laurentian took control of the game with a 31-point performance and kept the momentum going into the fourth to fight off a Blues comeback attempt.
Third-year forward Simeon Jeffers was outstanding for the Blue and White with a game-high 35 points on 46 per cent shooting from beyond the three-point line. The Burlington, Ont., native also shot 44 per cent from the field. A pair of guards, Rohan Scott-Smith and Mikey Ballout each notched double digit points with 12 and 10 respectively. Scott-Smith also had a game-high five assists and Ballout and Jeffers each snagged a game-high three steals.
For the Voyageurs, Brice Fandio led the way with 31 points on 60 per cent shooting from the field. Meanwhile, Evan Boudreau-Munro was a presence in the paint with eight rebounds.
After wrapping up the fall semester, U of T is back in action on Friday (Jan. 9) night when they host the York Lions at Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m., with tickets available at
