BLUES KNOCK OFF UNBC TIMBERWOLVES IN EXHIBITION CONTEST

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team earned a 95-78 exhibition victory over the UNBC Timberwolves on Saturday (Jan. 3) afternoon inside the Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House.

Gearing up for the second half of the OUA season, the Blues delivered a dominant performance in their first action of 2026. U of T used an aggressive defence to create scoring opportunities, finishing the contest with 29 points off turnovers compared to just five for the Timberwolves. Additionally, the inside presence of the Blues allowed the home side to add 21 second chance points, helping Toronto rebound from a slow start to pull away in the second half.

Third-year forward Simeon Jeffers led the way for Toronto with a 20 point and 11 rebound double-double. In the paint, the centre duo of Panashe Dumbu and Nigel Hylton each added 19 and 12 points, respectively. The pair also combined for nine offensive rebounds in UNBC territory and six blocks in the Blues defensive end. Double-digit scoring for Toronto was rounded out by a 16 point outing for first-year guard Mikey Ballout, including 4-for-6 shooting from behind the three-point line.

UNBC were led by Miller Davies who tallied 18 points and nine rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench. Justin Sanga also added 16 points, including five three-point field goals.

Next up for the Blues is the opening of the second half of the OUA regular season schedule. U of T will host the York Lions on Friday, Jan. 9 with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m. Tickets for home games are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets, while all OUA basketball games are streamed online via oua.tv.
