BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR VARSITY BLUES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team defeated the visiting Nipissing Lakers by a final score of 66-53 on Friday (Nov. 28) night inside the Goldring Centre - Kimel Family Field House.

While the Blues matched well with the Lakers in the first quarter, they came out blazing in the second and third— outscoring Nipissing 17-8 and 17-9 in each of the frames. The impressive run during the middle of the game was in large part due to the Blues strong pestering defence which forced the Lakers into 14 turnovers and allowed for U of T to score 12 points off turnovers, compared to just three points from turnovers for Nipissing. Additionally, Toronto's depth allowed for the home team to score more than double the visitors in bench points, with six Blues tallying five or more points in the win.

The complete team effort saw three U of T players in double-figures; fourth-year wing Janet Enge notching a 12-point and 10-rebound double-double,  second-year guard Lia Barbieri with a game-high 16 points and eight rebounds, and third-year guard Diana Comsa with 11 points and three rebounds. Second-year centre Zi Yang Wang also contributed 14 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass, and eight points off the bench.

For the Lakers, both Sophie Milner and Nicole Budd tallied 12 points, with Milner adding four steals defensively.

Up next, the Blues host the Laurentian Voyagers at home on Saturday (Nov 29) with tip-off set for 3 p.m. Tickets are available to purchase at varsityblues.ca/tickets, with the game available to stream on oua.tv.
