VARSITY BLUES LEAD FROM START TO FINISH

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team led from start to finish in an 82-66 victory versus the Nipissing Lakers on Friday (Nov. 28) night inside the Goldring Centre - Kimel Family Field House.

A high-flying performance in front of the home crowd saw the Blues build a 19-point lead late in the third quarter, allowing Toronto to never feel threatened down the stretch with a large gap. The dominant outing saw U of T shoot over 43 per cent from the field and nearly 40 per cent from behind the three-point line, nailing a total of 12 buckets from beyond the arc. The offensive advantage came from unselfish play as the Blues finished with 14 total assists compared to just two for Nipissing, while Toronto also carried the edge in second chance points (15-2) thanks to a plus-16 rebounding superiority.

Five players reached double-figures for the Blues, led by third-year forward Simeon Jeffers. The aggressive wing player tallied a game-high 19 points, adding seven rebounds and two steals. Fourth-year centre Nigel Hylton registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, including five offensive boards. Meanwhile, the guard duo of second-year standout Rohan Scott-Smith and first-year sensation Mikey Balloout rounded out the starters in double-digits with 15 and 10, respectively. Scott-Smith also served as the primary facilitator for the Blues offence recording a game-high six assists. Fourth-year forward Ryan Rudnick added 10 off the bench.

For the Lakers, Alexander Blackmore logged a team-high 14 points in 25 minutes of action.

The Blues will conclude their fall semester with a showdown versus the Laurentian Voyageurs inside the Goldring Centre - Kimel Family Field House. Tip-off for the final home contest of 2025 is set for 5 p.m. Tickets are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets, while the game is also streamed online via oua.tv.
