U OF T COMES UP SHORT IN HARD FOUGHT LOSS AT YORK

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team visited the York Lions on Friday night (Nov 14), starting their weekend with a 74-68 road loss.

Through all four quarters of action, Toronto and York fought evenly. While the Blues shot an outstanding 57 percent in the second quarter, the Lions capitalized on U of T turnovers which were forced with a strong defensive press. This resulted in 28 points off turnovers and 15 second chance point for York as they consistently pressure the Blues. Toronto would close the gap thanks to strong interior play which saw them capture over double the defensive rebounds (29-13), and 36 total points in the paint, but they were unable to draw even before the final whistle

Three Blues scored in double-figures. Third-year guard Faith Joseph led with 14 points and four rebounds on an efficient 73 percent shooting. Fourth-year forward Janet Enge added 12 points shooting 66 percent from three. And second-year guard Lia Barbieri registered 10 points and six steals, defensively.

York was led by Kiara Leveridge with 16 points, nine rebounds, and five steals, while Katy Leaudy contributed 15 points, four rebounds, and four steals.
