A LATE YEOMANS GOAL LEADS BLUES TO VICTORY

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team defeated the Trent Excalibur 3-2 on Saturday (Oct. 4) afternoon in Peterborough, Ont.
With the win, the Blues are at the top of the OUA East with a 7-2-1 record with two games remaining before the playoffs.

Controlling possession in the first half the Blues broke the scoreless deadlock in the 41st minute when second-year midfielder Julia Cristovao opened the scoring to give the Blues a 1-0 lead at halftime. Starting the second half in the same way the finished the first half as Cristovao stormed into the box and fired a shot into the back of the net to double U of T's lead in the 46th minute.

The Excalibur got themselves back in the match with a 63rd minute goal from Tianna Wilson. They evened the score in the 81st minute as Jenika Ton made it a brand-new match.

Fighting until the very end, the Blues looked to grab three crucial points in the standings three minutes of added time began after 90 minutes. Fourth-year standout Anne Yeomans regained the lead for the Blue and White. The goal was the Calgary, Alta., natives seventh goal of the season as she sits third in OUA scoring.

Third-year goalkeeper Maria Godoy-Atrash picked up the win in goal.

The Blues are back in action on Saturday (Oct. 11) afternoon when they take on the Laurentian Voyageurs in Sudbury, Ont. Kick off is scheduled for 12 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
