BLUES AND GOLDEN HAWKS COMES DOWN TO THE WIRE

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team fell 11-9 to the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday (Oct. 4) night at Varsity Stadium.

Beginning a four-game homestand, the Blues fell behind 6-1 after the first quarter with fifth-year attack Scott Del Zotto getting U of T on the board with his first of two goals in the game. Toronto narrowed the deficit to two-goals thanks to a pair of goals from third-year midfield Jonathan Murawsky as well as goals from second-year attack Kevin Yan, first-year standout Zach Abu-Ali and third-year attack Daniel Clarke.

An early second half goal from Laurier didn't phase the Blues as Del Zotto was quick to respond. A late push from U of T saw Abu-Ali score his second goal of the game and Murawsky complete the hat trick but the Golden Hawks were able to hold on in a game that came down to the wire.

Third-year goaltender Benjamin Rishikof made 18 saves.

The Blues are back in action on Friday (Oct. 10) night when they host the McMaster Marauders at Varsity Stadium. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. and tickets are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. U of T students get free admission with a valid T-Card.
