The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team dropped a 35-16 decision to the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, October 4 at Varsity Stadium.
With the loss, the Blues drop to 1-6 on the season, while the Marauders improve to 2-4.
TORONTO STATS:Â Second-year running back Josh Matsyk scored both of Toronto's touchdowns late in the fourth quarter on two-yard runs. They marked Matsyk's first career touchdowns as a Varsity Blue.
Fourth-year quarterback Scott Barnett finished the game 21-for-30 with 224 passing yards and an additional 76 rushing yards on 11 carries. At 1,990 passing yards on the season so far, Barnett has moved into fifth on the all-time single season program record list with 160 completions and seventh with 1,990 passing yards with one game still remaining in the season.Â
Both standout receivers Chris Joseph and Jake Oseen continued to add to their incredible seasons as well. Joseph converted nine receptions into 82 yards, while Oseen made four grabs for 36 yards. Making it a trio of strong receiver performances, Thomas Roberts delivered a team-high 89 receiving yards on five catches in his return to the lineup.
Defensively, the linebacker duo of Elia Lini and Ryan Stewart tallied 7.5 and seven tackles, respectively. Both Elijah Trench and Charles Menard also picked up sacks, firing up the home crowd in the home finale for the Blues.
UP NEXT: After a bye week, the Blues close out the regular season on the road when they travel to Ottawa on Saturday, October 18 to take on the Gee-Gees. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
