BLUES NOTCH FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON IN KINGSTON

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the Queen's Gaels 4-0 on Saturday (Oct. 4) afternoon in Kingston, Ont.

It was a game of firsts as three Varsity Blues notched their first career goals. Rookie forward Catalina Meilleur opened the scoring with her first career goal in the 12th minute. Second-year U of T forward Clara Leduc doubled the Blues lead midway through the second quarter with her first career goal as well. Toronto was up 2-0 at halftime.

Fourth-year forward Elizabeth Assimes extended Toronto's lead in the third quarter, while third-year defender Maggie Mullins notched her first career goal in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring. U of T's defence was strong all game holding Queen's to just one shot while the offence fired 24 Queen's' way.

First-year Mary Yang earned the shutout victory in net.

The Blues are back in action tomorrow as they do battle with the Gaels again in Kingston. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
