The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's volleyball team defeated the McMaster Marauders 3-0 on Sunday (Oct. 26) afternoon in Hamilton, Ont.
Set scores were 25-22, 25-23, 25-22.
In a three-set sweep, U of T and McMaster began the match with a tightly contested affair. A four-point swing in Toronto's favour put them in the driver's seat to claim the first set. As the Marauders looked to mount a comeback, fourth-year setter Michael Hickey had a kill and forced an attack error to give U of T the win. In the second set, the Blues were able to capitalize on nine McMaster service errors. In the final set was tied at 22 but three straight points from Toronto led them to victory and a 2-0 start to the 2025-26 season.
Leading the way for the Blues was second-year outside hitter Iannis Toma with 11 points and 10 kills. Fifth-year outside hitter's Maxime Gratton and Hunter Arulpragasam each had 10.5 points and Gratton also reached the double-digit point plateau. Fifth-year libero Rylan Armstrong had eight digs and Hickey's playmaking was on display with a game-high 33 assists.
For the Marauders, Makhi Fitzgerald had a game-high 16.5 points and Ronan Huth had 26 assists.
The Blues are back in action on Friday (Nov. 7) night when they take on the York Lions in Toronto. First-serve is scheduled for 8 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on
