The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team fell 9-8 to the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday (Oct. 26) afternoon in Waterloo.
In a tightly contested affair, fifth-year midfielder Benny Konishi opened the scoring for the Blues. After a tying goal from Laurier, first-year attack Alex Farrington restore the U of T lead. The Golden Hawks went on a 3-0 run to close out the second quarter as Toronto trailed by two going into the half.
The offence found their legs in the third quarter outscoring Laurier 3-1 with goals from Jonathan Murawsky, Justin Ranger and Alexander May. Trailing by three goals with less than four minutes of play remaining, Ranger notched his second goal of the game and fifth-year attack Scott Del Zotto also reached the two-goal plateau but Laurier was able to fight off U of T's comeback attempt with a narrow victory.
The Blues finish the regular season with a 5-5 record and will now turn their attention to the postseason as the No. 5 seed in the West division. CUFLA's qualifying weekend runs from Oct. 31 – Nov. 2.
