The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-13 decision versus the visiting Nipissing Lakers on Sunday (Oct. 19) at Varsity Stadium.
The Blues were fast out of the gate building up a 5-0 lead through the first quarter. However, the Lakers were able to close the gap before the haltime break and maintain momentum through the final two frames. This included a three-goal run in the last five minutes, lifting the visitors just beyond the reach of the Blues.
Both fifth-year attack Scott Del Zotto and third-year attack Daniel Clark registered four goals in the Blues regular season home finale. First-year midfielder Zach Abu-Ali added two more for Toronto. Abu-Ali ranks second in all of CUFLA this season with 35 goals ahead of the final weekend of regular season action next week. Scoring was rounded out by Ryan Clarke, Graham Dicken and Jonathan Murawsky who each tallied single markers.
With the loss, Toronto moves to 5-4 on the season placing them fifth in the CUFLA West division standings. They will travel to Waterloo next Sunday (Oct. 26) to close out their regular season schedule versus the Laurier Golden Hawks. Action begins at 7:30 p.m.
