BLUES FINISH THE PRESEASON AGAINST GUELPH

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team wrapped up their preseason on Saturday (Oct. 18) afternoon with a 3-1 loss to the Guelph Gryphons at Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House.

Set scores for the match were 25-27, 18-25, 28-26, 22-25.

U of T's resilience pushed Guelph beyond the set point in a hard fought first set. After Guelph capitalized on their momentum in the second, U of T pushed back to take the third set, showing composure and clawing back from multiple set points to secure a 28-26 victory. The final set mirrored much of the match in a closely contested match.

Third-year outside hitter Guilia Chimilovski led the way offensively for the Blues. Tallying 14 points, including 12 kills, she paced U of T's attack with a .321 hitting percentage. Julia Liu had 9.5 points and eight kills. First-year setter Maria Gustke showcased her playmaking with a team-high 26 assists. Third-year libero Delaney Watson was stout on defence with a game-high 15 digs.

For Guelph, Sloan Fortin led the team with 16.5 points including 11 kills. Fortin was closely followed by Jordan Vang who notched 16 points and 11 kills. Sophie Summerfeldt recorded a game-high 33 assists.

The Blues are back on the court on Friday (Oct. 24) night when they open the regular season in Ottawa against the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Opening serve is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
