The No. 3 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team fell 2-0 to the Queen's Gaels on Friday (Oct. 17) night in Kingston, Ont.
The Blues generated quality scoring chances early in the first period but Queen's broke the deadlock, getting on the board midway through the first period as Sophie Hudson capitalized on a breakaway as the Gaels took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Blue showcased their speed in the second period as they pushed the tempo. The penalty kill stood tall late in the period to stifle the Gaels' momentum and third-year goalie Carlee Vance was sharp between the pipes as it remained a one-goal game.
U of T battled hard in the third period as they excelled in transition as they looked to beat Queen's goaltender Emma Tennant. Late in the final frame, Alex Recsky gave the Gaels an insurance marker. U of T pushed for offence until the very end of the game but time wasn't on their side as Tennant picked up the shutout in goalie.
Vance finished the game with 25 saves.
The Blues will be back in action on Saturday (Oct. 18) night when they travel to Oshawa, Ont., to take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on
