Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

BLUES FALL TO RAVENS IN THE SHOOTOUT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team fell 1-0 in the shootout to the Carleton Ravens on Saturday (Oct. 31) afternoon in Ottawa.

It was a goalie dual in the nation's capital with third-year Blues netminder Lyla McKinnon and Carleton's Kaitlyn Langille both earning shutouts following a 67-minute stalemate where McKinnon made 18 saves and Langille stopped 46.

The Blues came out looking to establish their offence early, generating chances throughout the first period but Langille and McKinnon both stood tall between the pipes as the game remained scoreless. Toronto continued to apply pressure in the second period, outshooting the Ravens 12-2 in the frame but Langille stood her ground between the pipes, keeping the puck out of the back of the net. The third period saw a continuation of the Blues pushing the pace of play but Langille and McKinnon remained perfect to send the game to overtime.

In overtime, play was back-and-forth. The Ravens got a breakaway but McKinnon turned the opportunity aside. With Carleton applying pressure in the zone, McKinnon came up big again with a sliding pad stop on Payton Miller. At the other end, Langille continued to stifle U of T as the game was headed to a shootout where the Ravens would score the game-winner in the fourth round to cap off a strong display of goaltending in Ottawa.

The road trip continues for the Blue and White, taking on the Western Mustangs in London, Ont., on Friday (Nov. 6) night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
