BLUES OWN HOME COURT IN SWEEP OVER GRYPHONS

In a dominant three-set performance, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team swept the Guelph Gryphons 3-0 on Friday night (Jan. 31) at the Goldring Centre. The Blues showcased their offensive power and defensive control, securing the victory with set scores of 25-15, 25-19, and 25-20.

Toronto delivered an outstanding team effort, registering 48 kills with a .325 hitting percentage while holding Guelph to just 34 kills and a .175 efficiency. The Blues defensive efforts were equally impressive, tallying 73 digs and limiting Guelph's attack with strong blocking at the net.

Julia Liu led the way for Toronto with 18 kills, a stellar .485 hitting percentage, and three service aces, while Julia Murmann was just as dominant with 19 kills, 10 digs, and a .381 hitting percentage. Setter Robin Melnick orchestrated the offense with 37 assists, helping Toronto maintain their offensive rhythm. Libero Delaney Watson anchored the back row with a game-high 29 digs, ensuring strong defensive coverage throughout the match.

For Guelph, Briar Crerar led with 12 kills and 11 digs, while Sloane Fortin contributed nine kills. Setter Alexa Shields managed 28 assists, but Toronto's defensive pressure proved too much for the Gryphons to overcome.

The Blues improve to 8-7 on the season and will look to build on this momentum in their next matchup, as they host the Gryphons on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. Tickets for Varsity Blues home games are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets, while matches are also streamed on oua.tv.
