The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team secured another five set victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday (Jan. 25) afternoon at the Physical Activities Complex in Waterloo, Ont.
After coming all the way back from a two set deficit last night, the Blues used their momentum to claim the Saturday follow-up with set scores of 25-19, 22-25, 20-25, 25-21, and 15-11.
Toronto delivered a strong all-around performance, recording 53 kills with a team hitting percentage of .174, while adding 77 digs and 10 service aces. The Blues defensive presence at the net was instrumental, contributing 22 total blocks to keep Waterloo's attack in check.
Julia Liu followed up a strong performance last night by leading the Blues with a standout performance, tallying 18 kills, 14 digs, and three service aces. Blues veteran Julia Murmann followed closely with 14 kills and 17 digs. Setter Robin Melnick orchestrated the attack efficiently with 32 assists, adding six digs defensively. Libero Delaney Watson anchored the defensive effort with 14 crucial digs.
Rachael Meilikhan led the way for the Warriors offensive effort with 16 kills and six digs, with Sydney Batiuk adding 10 kills. Setter Madison Seo contributed 27 assists and eight digs, keeping Waterloo in contention throughout the match.
The Blues move to a 7-7 record on the season, while Waterloo now stands at 10-4.
U of T will look to keep their winning momentum next weekend when they are back in the friendly confines of Goldring Centre - Kimel Family Field House as they host the Guelph Gryphons on Friday, Jan. 31. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at
