The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team faced a challenging matchup on Saturday (Jan. 25) night against the visiting McMaster Marauders, ultimately falling 86-49.
The Varsity Blues came into the game ready to compete, battling hard on the boards and showing high-pace, especially in the early going. Back-and-forth action saw Toronto and McMaster exchanging the lead through the first two quarters, with the Blues leading 23-22 midway through the second. U of T's relentless effort on the glass allowed them to dominate the offensive boards, pulling down an impressive 22 offensive rebounds. However, the Marauders took back momentum as the heated up from downtown, taking back and extending their lead with 11 made three-pointers throughout the full four quarters of action.
Fourth-year guard Kaylee Williams led the Blues with 13 points, while also providing a strong defensive presence on the perimeter and additional rebounding with six boards. Second-year guard Raya Hafez added 12 points, while forward Zi Yang Wang made a notable impact off the bench, scoring nine points and securing a team-high 11 rebounds, including eight offensive boards.
Topping the Marauders in the win, Amy Stinson registered a game-high 23 points with six three-point field goals, while also adding six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block.
Toronto will look to bounce back stronger in their next game against the TMU Bold on Wednesday, Jan. 29. The road game tips-off from TMU at 6 p.m., with the action available to stream via
