BLUES COMPLETE STELLAR COMEBACK IN WATERLOO

In a thrilling five-set match, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team secured an impressive comeback 3-2 victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Friday night (Jan. 24) at the Physical Activities Complex in Waterloo, Ont.

The Blues showed remarkable resilience and determination to battle back from a 2-0 set deficit en route to their win with set scores of 18-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, and 15-13.

Toronto demonstrated their offensive power with 57 kills and a .144 hitting percentage, while their defensive efforts shone with 75 digs and 22 total blocks. This allowed the Blues to overcome their early deficit and take control in the final three sets, showcasing their composure under pressure.

Julia Liu led the Blues with a dominant performance, registering 25 kills and eight digs, while Olivia Zhu contributed 11 kills, 16 digs, and a .276 hitting percentage. Setter Robin Melnick was instrumental in the victory, tallying 37 assists, 15 digs, and two service aces. Libero Delaney Watson anchored the defense with 11 digs, making crucial plays in tight moments.

Rachael Meilikhan led the Warriors with 19 kills and 10 digs, while Stella McKenna added 14 kills and 10 blocks.

U of T improves their record to 6-7 while they knock third-place Waterloo down to 10-3.

The Blues will look to carry their momentum into tomorrow's rematch against Waterloo. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Physical Activities Complex in Waterloo, Ont. The game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
