BLUES BATTLE IN SUNDAY CONTEST AGAINST BADGERS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team faced a formidable challenge on Sunday (Jan. 19) night, falling 80-52 to the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines, Ont.

The Badgers came out with drive in the first half, resulting in a 24-point lead for the home side at the half. The Blues kept up the intensity all throughout the game, limiting the Badgers offense as the game progressed, but were unable to overcome the early deficit. U of T shot 33.3% from the field and equaled Brock's accuracy from beyond the arc. Brock capitalized on the Toronto's turnovers, converting them into key scoring opportunities and maintaining momentum throughout the game.

Second-year guard Raya Hafez led the Blues with 13 points, hitting three three-pointers, while also adding five assists and two rebounds. Kaylee Williams provided a much-needed spark off the bench, scoring 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting , while contributing four assists and two rebounds.

On the boards, Sh'rye Johnson was a standout for Toronto, pulling down a game-high nine rebounds. Nia Wright also delivered a solid performance in limited minutes, tallying eight points and showcasing her ability to attack the basket effectively.

Toronto and Brock were equally matched on the glass, as both sides grabbed 33 rebounds. The Badgers swiped 17 steals in comparison to 10 by the Blues.

The Blues will take away important lessons as they prepare for their next matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 22 against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Goldring Centre.
