The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team secured a thrilling 3-2 victory against the No. 7 ranked Toronto Metropolitan University Bold in a closely contested match on September 6, 2024, at Varsity Stadium.
Toronto opened the scoring early, with Oliver Barta netting the first goal in the 23rd minute, assisted by Shon Siegelwachs. Despite dominating much of the play, Toronto could not hold the lead going into halftime. Justin Santos from Toronto Metropolitan scored an equalizer at the 45-minute mark, just before the break, assisted by Luca Di Marco.
Early in the second half, Toronto Metropolitan took the lead with a goal by Akeim Villous in the 56th minute, assisted by Santos, making it 2-1. The Varsity Blues responded with resilience. In the 78th minute, Niklas Hallam tied the game at 2-2. Just minutes later, Hallam scored again in the 83rd minute, assisted by Ife Adenuga, sealing the 3-2 victory for Toronto.
Throughout the match, the Varsity Blues showed offensive dominance, outshooting Toronto Metropolitan 22-7. Goalkeeper Alex Lin had a strong game, stopping a thunderstrike from twenty yards out in the first half and picking up an assist on Hallam's tying goal late in the game. Toronto Metropolitan's goalie, Dante Ferraro, was very busy, recording seven saves.
With this win, Toronto continues their undefeated streak, maintaining their strong form early in the season.
