BLUES FALL TO LIONS IN EXHIBITION MATCHUP

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team lost 3-0 to the York Lions in an exhibition game on Friday (Sept. 27) night at Canlan Ice Sports in Toronto, Ont.

Both teams traded chances through the first 10 minutes of the first period but it was York who got the game's first goal midway through when forward Abbey McMillan found the back of the net, giving York the icebreaker. The Blues played well throughout the rest of the first period but went into first intermission trailing 1-0.

The Lions added another goal in the second period with forward Kaitlin Teixeira finding the back of the net to make it a 2-0 game. Despite trailing, the Blues pushed for a goal but Blues second-year goalie Carlee Vance and Lions goalie Emma Wedgewood exchanged saves keeping the score at 2-0 after two periods of play.

Early in the third period, McMillan added her second goal of the game, making it 3-0. As the period progressed the Blues pushed for offence, with Vance making key saves to keep the game close. Toronto wasn't able to find the back of the net as the game ended with a 3-0 final score, and Vance finished the game with 15 saves.

The Blues will be back in action on Saturday (Sept. 28) night when they host the Guelph Gryphons at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. and tickets are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets.
