The OUA defending champion University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team topped the Waterloo Warriors 2-0 on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 22) at Back Campus Fields.
 
With the win, the Blues improve to 1-0-1 in the early goings of the 2024 season.
 
Third-year forward Elizabeth Assimes opened the scoring for U of T, finding the back of the net off a penalty corner in the 18th minute. Toronto held the 1-0 lead at halftime.
 
Second-year forward Ava Airnes added an insurance marker in the 56th minute to round out the scoring.
 
Veteran goalie Deepi Gill earned the shutout in net for the Blues.
 
The Blues are back in action this Friday, September 27 as they host the McMaster Marauders at Back Campus. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
