The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's rugby team made their first appearance on home turf in the 2024 season, putting up a strong fight but falling by a score of 40-14 to the Brock Badgers on Sunday, September 15.
The Badgers had a quick start to the game, rattling off three tries with successful conversions in the first twenty minutes, giving them a 21-0 lead. The Blues showed resiliency and responded with two scores of their own before the half. Luke Callaghan and Eric Vann found the in-goal area for a try each, and Yuta Takahashi was successful on both conversions.
The second half saw the Blues battle hard until the 80
th minute, with a strong team defensive effort and an energetic crowd that kept them within striking distance. The Badgers added two tries as the game progressed, and the Blues had multiple close calls that were turned aside.
Toronto looks to rebound next weekend when they travel to Hamilton to face the McMaster Marauders at Ron Joyce Stadium on Saturday, September 21. Kick-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
