Both the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's tennis teams captured bronze at the 2024 Canadian University Tennis Championships (CUTC) in Montreal this past weekend.
After dropping their semifinal matches, the U of T tennis teams bounced back, claiming back-to-back wins over the Dalhousie Tigers. The Toronto men earned a 5-2 win over the east coast opponents, while the Blues women made quick work of the Tigers with a 4-0 victory.
For the men, Toronto received exceptional performances from the doubles team of Arden D'Anielo and Alec Luchak, while both Zackary Willson and Raghav Sundararaman delivered impressive singles wins in the bronze medal showdown.
On the women's side, U of T swept the doubles matches for the single point, while Anastasiya Dyadchenko, Felina Yang, and Carmen Nahat claimed the final three singles points needed to secure the third step on the podium.
Following the event, both the Blues No. 1 men's and women's player, Rassam Yazdi and Dyadchenko, were honoured as championship all-stars.
The bronze for the men marked their first CUTCÂ medal since a silver finish in 2018, while the women earned their second CUTC medal in three years, previously earning silver in 2022.
In the gold medal matches, UBC defeated Laval 4-2 to claim the men's gold medal, while Alberta knocked off Laval 4-1 for the women's championship.
