The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell to the No. 1 Carleton Ravens 93-39 on Friday (Feb. 9) in Ottawa.
Coming off two-straight wins, the Blues headed to Carleton in the first half of a back-to-back with the two Ottawa schools.
Despite the discrepancy in national ranking, the Blues and Ravens looked on equal footing throughout the first quarter. However, a victim of their own turnovers, the Blues would begin to fade behind the Ravens through the second. As the halftime whistle rang, the Ravens held a 55-22 lead. Unfortunately, the Blues offence couldn't find their rhythm, shooting 19 for 92 from the field. The Ravens held their lead through the final two quarters to secure the 93-39 win.
Leading the way for the Blues was usual suspect Ellen Ougrinov. The Mississauga, Ont. led the Blues with nine points and seven rebounds. First-year guard Raya Hafez impressed through three-quarters of play tallying eight points, but unfortunately was carried off with an injury. Leading the Blues in minutes played tonight was third-year guard Kaylee Williams. Williams recorded seven points and added two steals, two assists, and two rebounds.
Teresa Donato led the Ravens with a game-high 17 points, three rebounds and one assists.
Tomorrow, Toronto goes crosstown to take on the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The action will be streamed online at oua.tv.
