WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROP ROAD CONTEST AT LAURIER

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell 87-52 versus the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday (Feb. 16) night in Waterloo.

In the penultimate game of the OUA regular season, Toronto tried to keep pace with the home team. First quarter baskets from four of the five starters, in addition to bench points, kept the Blues within striking distance during the early going. However, Laurier capitalized on turnovers outscoring Toronto 26-4 on points off turnovers. With the Golden Hawks pulling away, the Blues looked to close the gap with shots from behind the arc, but failed to find their form.

Fifth-year guard Ellen Ougrinov topped the Blues with a game-high 20 points. Including tonight, Ougrinov now has 13 games this season with 20 or more points scored. Third-year forward Sabrina Nero added nine points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks, while second-year forward Alex Jaglall chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds off the bench.

All five starters for the Golden Hawks reached double-digits in the win, led by a team-high 19 points from Cassidy Hirtle.

Toronto will remain in Waterloo, Ont., as they close out the OUA regular season tomorrow (Feb. 17) night versus the Waterloo Warriors. Tip-off for the finale is scheduled for 6 p.m. All the action can be streamed on oua.tv.
