The Varsity Blues women's fencing team secured a second-place finish at the 2024 OUA Women's Fencing Championship on Sunday (Feb. 11) at the Athletic Centre.
The Mustangs completed the championship with a total of 411 points, followed by the University of Toronto (293) and Carleton Ravens (142).
Opening the day with the sabre team relay, the team of Janna Elshakankiri, Jessica Lu, Caroline Placko and Anita Trzciakowski placed second. The Blues went 6-0 before just falling 45-42 to the Western Mustangs in the finals.
The Blues picked up their second medal of the day, finishing second in the foil team relay. The team of TianTian Dong, Catherine Wu, Zoey Xie and Lea Zizzari fell 45-24 to the Western Mustangs.
Toronto wrapped up the day with their third and final silver medal of the day in the epee team relay competition, from the team of Jackie Lau, Anna Mucsi, Angela Mucsi and Amy Sun. The team went 5-0 before falling to the Western Mustangs 41-40.
