U OF T UNABLE TO KEEP UP IN ROAD LOSS AT GUELPH

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball deep dropped an 82-52 decision versus the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday (Nov. 9) night in Guelph, Ont.

Both the Blues and Gryphons found success from behind the three-point line, with Toronto nearly shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc. However, Guelph was able to pull ahead due to a pestering defence which forced Toronto into 26 turnovers. This in turn led to a 29-3 advantage for the Gryphons in points off turnovers through the four quarters of action.

Second-year guard Raya Hafez led the Varsity Blues with 15 points, including three made three-pointers. She also contributed four assists, three rebounds, and one steal in a team-high 30 minutes. Fifth-year forward Thuraya Abdul Hamid added nine points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line, while first-year forward Lucy Xu pulled down a team-high six rebounds, while adding five points.

The Gryphons offence was paced by Hannah Bourdon, who scored a game-high 17 points, and Julia Colavecchia, who added another 15 for the home side. Bourdon also secured a double-double with 10 rebounds, registering four assists and three steals to round our her impressive night.

The Blues will look to bounce back stronger in their next match against the Windsor Lancers on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The home game at Goldring Centre is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip-off, with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets and the game streamed on oua.tv.
