VALIANT EFFORT BY BLUES VERSUS NO. 4 RANKED GAELS

In a challenging road match, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team fell to the No. 4 nationally ranked Queen's Gaels 3-0 on Friday night (Nov. 29) at the ARC Main Gym in Kingston.

The Blues fought valiantly but were ultimately outpaced by OUA-leading Gaels, who secured the sets 25-22, 25-12, 25-15.

Toronto started strong in the opening set, hitting .229 as a team, but struggled to maintain their offensive rhythm throughout the remainder of the match. Despite the loss, the Blues showcased their defensive grit with 31 digs and moments of strong play-making.

Second-year outside hitter Olivia Zhu led the Varsity Blues with nine points from nine kills. Both fourth-year middle Anna Gadomski and second-year outside hitter Giulia Chimilovski chipped in with five kills and one service ace, offensively. Chimilovski and fourth-year outside hitter Julia Murmann topped the team defensively with seven digs apiece.

For the Gaels, Hannah Duchesneau and Mary Stewart led the charge with 11 and nine kills, respectively, combining for a .312 hitting percentage. Amanda Siksna was a force at the net with seven kills and six total blocks.

The Varsity Blues will aim to bounce back tomorrow (Nov. 30) afternoon in a rematch against Queen's at 2 p.m., again at the ARC Main Gym. The game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
