BLUES FALL TO NO. 1 GEE-GEES IN P.A. DAY GAME

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team were defeated by the No. 1 University of Ottawa Gee-Gees this morning (Nov. 29), falling 67-39 in their P.A. Day Game.

Toronto's rookie guard Lia Barbieri led the team with 13 points, tying a season- and career-high. Barbieri demonstrated efficiency with 50% shooting from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Fourth- and second-year guards Kaylee Williams and Raya Hafez contributed five and seven points, respectively, with Williams showing her defensive prowess by notching three steals.

Off the bench, fifth-year forward Thuraya Abdul Hamid brought hustle and effort, securing a game-high 10 rebounds and adding six points. Her energy in the paint was a bright spot for the Blues. Hamid's ten rebounds sets a season-high mark and ties her career best.

The Blues pulled down an impressive 49 rebounds overall, including 13 offensive boards.

With this loss, the Blues fall to 1-10 to close out the 2024 portion of this season's schedule. The Gee-Gees move to 9-1.

The Blues will regroup and refine their skills as they prepare for 2025, in which they will open the new year with a contest against the Carleton Ravens. The matchup is set for Friday, January 10, at Goldring Centre, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m. Tickets are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets, and the game can be streamed via oua.tv.
