U OF T IN TOUGH VERSUS NO. 4 CARLETON

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team dropped an 86-50 decision versus the No. 4 nationally ranked Carleton Ravens on Friday (Jan. 10) night at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

The Blues were in tough from tip-off, opening the second half of their season against the undefeated and OUA East leading Ravens. Despite a strong rebounding effort which saw U of T out-rebound Carleton 51-50, Toronto struggled to contain the red-hot Ravens offence as the visitors finished the night shooting over 45 percent from the floor.

First-year Blues guard Lia Barbieri led the charge for U of T scoring a team-high 11 points, including two deep three-pointers. She also contributed five rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Meanwhile, forward Zi Yang Wang was all over the glass for the Blues grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds, including eight offensive boards, while adding eight points and two blocks. First-year guard Nia Wright also provided a spark off the bench with two timely three-pointers, adding two rebounds and a steal to round out her stat line.

The nationally ranked Ravens were led by a 26 point performance from Jacqueline Urban who added five rebounds, three steals, and one block in her 20 minutes of action.

Up next, the Blues will face the York Lions at Goldring Centre on Saturday (Jan. 11) night, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m. Tickets for the home game are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets, while the action will also be streamed online at oua.tv.
