In an intense four-set battle, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team defeated the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold 3-1 on Saturday (Nov. 23) afternoon at Goldring Centre. The Blues demonstrated grit and resilience, with the set scores being 25-18, 18-25, 25-23, and 33-31 in a nail-biting finish.
Toronto showcased their balanced offense and defensive strength, recording 55 kills and 102 digs while limiting TMU to a .122 hitting percentage. The Blues excelled in crucial moments, with setter Robin Melnick orchestrating the offense with 28 assists and contributing nine digs and three service aces.
Olivia Zhu delivered a standout performance with 18 kills and 12 digs, showing her ability to perform under pressure. Giulia Chimilovski added eight kills and three blocks, contributing significantly to the Blues defensive wall. Libero Delaney Watson anchored the backline with 14 digs, ensuring TMU's attacks were repeatedly thwarted.
For TMU, Scarlett Gingera was the standout, tallying 15 kills and 11 digs. Ayla Cross also contributed with eight kills and five blocks, keeping the Bold competitive throughout the match.
Toronto improves a 4-4 record, while TMU falls to 3-5 on the season.
