BLUES AND LANCERS GO FOUR SETS IN WINDSOR

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team fell 3-1 on the road versus the Windsor Lancers on Friday (Nov. 15) night in Windsor.

Set scores in the four set match were 18-25, 25-27, 25-20, 23-25.

A close contest throughout, the Blues were able to keep the Lancers under pressure, especially late in the second and fourth sets. Toronto was effective defensively throughout the match with 70 total digs, and were especially efficient offensively in the second, registering a .229 attack percentage to just .167 for the home side. However, the difference in the match came courtesy Windsor's strong play at the net, which saw them record 18 total blocks to just five for U of T, allowing the Lancers to earn the two point victory in each of the critically close sets.

The Blues attack was led by fourth-year outside hitter Julia Murmann, registering a season-high 18 points from 17 kills and one service ace. Murmann was also a key part of the Blues defensive success, posting 10 digs. Also reaching double-digit points for U of T, fellow fourth-year outside hitter Natalia Souza recorded 11 kills, adding nine digs defensively. Four more Blues notched eight or more points in the all-around team performance. Pacing the Toronto offence, fifth-year setter Robin Melnick notched 39 assists, with 11 digs as well. Topping the Blues defensively, second-year libero Delaney Watson recorded a game-high 17 digs.

Aliah Admans was a force for the Lancers, finishing the night with 27 total points from 24 kills, two aces, and two block assists. Windsor setter Danika Scharff posted 40 assists, while Maja Susa notched a team-high 16 digs.

The Blues and Lancers are right back at it tomorrow (Nov. 16) afternoon, with first serve in Windsor scheduled for 1 p.m. The match will be available to stream online at oua.tv.
