The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 85-34 on Sunday (Oct. 6) afternoon at Goldring Centre.
 
Rookie guard Lia Barbieri led the Blues in scoring, coming off the bench to contribute 10 points, including two three-pointers, and went two-for-two from the free-throw line. Patrycja Waleszczak added six points, shooting two-for-two from both the field and the charity stripe, while Jade Diwandja chipped in four points. Zi Yang stood out defensively, grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds, including six offensive boards.
 
The Blues showed resilience on the glass, collecting 41 total rebounds, including 12 on the offensive end.
 
The Blues will look to regroup and build on the positives as they prepare for their next preseason matchup against Dalhousie on Saturday, Oct 12 at Goldring Centre. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
