The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team tied the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 2-2 on Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon at Vaso's Field.
The Blues started strong, opening the scoring in the 13th minute. Fourth-year forward Anne Yeomans found the back of the net after a scramble in front of the goal, putting Toronto up 1-0. The Blues continued to dominate possesion, which paid off again late in the first half. Blues captain Hannah Chown doubled the lead, converting a penalty kick in the 39th minute to give Toronto a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
Ontario Tech responded quickly in the second half, cutting Toronto's lead in half in the 61st minute with a goal from Mackenzie Scott. The Ridgebacks capitalized on their momentum just three minutes later, as Sara Wylie netted the equalizer to tie the game 2-2.
The Blues pushed for the go-ahead goal, but Ridgebacks goalkeeper Alicia Chisholm stood tall, making several crucial saves to keep the game level. Despite outshooting Ontario Tech 14-10, the Blues couldn't take back the lead.
Toronto will look to bounce back tomorrow (Oct. 5) at Trent University against the Excalibur. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. at the Trent Excalibur Stadium in Peterborough.
