The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against the Trent Excalibur on Sunday (Oct. 6) afternoon at Justin Chiu Stadium in Peterborough.
Â
The Blues controlled much of the play throughout the match, generating 16 shots and 12 corner kicks compared to Trent's seven shots and one corner kick. Toronto's first chance came early in the match when Blues defender Hannah Chown earned a penalty kick in the 8th minute, but Trent goalkeeper Victoria Ivey-Town made a key save to keep the game scoreless.
Â
Despite multiple attempts to break through, including a trio of shots from fourth-year forward Anne Yeomans and a strong showing by midfielders Emilija Lucic and Hannah Harkin, Toronto was unable to beat Ivey-Town, who made ten saves in the contest.
Â
Toronto goalkeeper Juliana Ottoni also delivered a solid performance, making two crucial saves to keep Trent off the board. The Blues applied relentless pressure in the second half but could not capitalize on their opportunities. The game ended prematurely due to adverse weather conditions with two minutes of extra time remaining, concluding as a 0-0 draw.Â
Toronto will look to find their scoring touch as they return home to face the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday (Oct. 12) at Varsity Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and tickets can be found atÂ
