The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team earned a commanding 2-0 victory over the No. 8 Nipissing Lakers on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Varsity Stadium.
After a competitive first half, the Blues opened the scoring in the 53rd minute when midfielder Hannah Anderson found the back of the net, notching her first goal of the season. The goal came off a well-executed assist from defender Hannah Chown, following sustained offensive pressure from Toronto.
Just ten minutes later, forward Ines Delhomelle doubled the Blues' lead, also scoring her first goal of the season. Natasha Budisa provided the assist, setting up the goal with a precise pass that sliced through the Nipissing defense.
The Lakers, who came into the match with an 8-3-0 record, applied significant pressure, particularly in the second half, out shooting the Blues 16-8. However, Varsity Blues goalkeeper Maria Godoy Atrash was in stellar form, making seven crucial saves to secure her second clean sheet of the season.
Toronto's defense held strong against several late chances from Nipissing, including a dangerous shot in the 62nd minute that was brilliantly saved by Godoy Atrash.
With the win, the Blues improve to 5-3-3 on the season. They will look to build on this momentum in their next match against the Laurentian Voyageurs at Varsity Stadium on October 19. Kickoff is at 1 p.m., and tickets are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets.
