The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team earned a decisive 3-0 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Sunday, October 13 at Varsity Stadium.
Toronto dominated possession and broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute when forward Anne Yeomans scored her fourth goal of the season, assisted by Emilija Lucic. The Blues' relentless pressure paid off, as they peppered Laurentian's goalkeeper Hunter Jones with 30 shots, 18 of which were on target.
The Blues extended their lead in the 78th minute with a goal from defender Cassie Chan, her first of the season, after a well-placed corner kick from Julia Cristovao. Toronto capped off the victory in the 87th minute when Natasha Budisa netted her second goal of the season, assisted by Ula Curley.
Despite Laurentian's defensive efforts, goalkeeper Hunter Jones made 15 saves but couldn't stop Toronto's attacking prowess. The Voyageurs managed only four shots, none on target, as Toronto's defense remained impenetrable throughout the match.
With this win, the Blues improve their record to 6-3-3 and secure fifth place in their conference. The team will compete in their first playoff game on Saturday, October 19 against Toronto Metropolitan University. Time of kick-off is to be announced later.
