The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey wrapped up their preseason with a 2-1 win over the Western Mustangs on Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon in London, Ont.
In the first period both teams were held scoreless as Blues second-year goaltender Carlee Vance made key saves to keep the score at zeros going into the first intermission.
In the second period Western struck first, but despite trailing the Blues were able to respond with a goal of their own from second-year forward Taylor Delahey. Delahey's equalizer marked her fourth goal of the preseason.
In the third period, fourth-year forward Sophie Grawbarger broke the deadlock and found the back of the net to put the Blues up 2-1. Grawbarger's goal was the eventual game winner as the Blues played a strong defensive game as the period progressed and capped off the preseason with a win over the Mustangs.
The Blues will begin the 2024-25 regular season on Thursday (Oct. 10) on the road against the Waterloo Warriors at the CIF Arena in Waterloo, Ont. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on OUA.tv
