BLUES SHUTOUT LANCERS IN EXHIBITION GAME

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team picked up a 4-0 road victory over the Windsor Lancers in an exhibition game on Friday (Oct. 4) night in Windsor, Ont.

The Blues were able to break the ice in the first period when second-year forward Ashley Delahey secured her first goal of the preseason to give the Blues a 1-0 lead that they carried into first intermission.

In the second period the Blues were able to put pressure on Windsor's defence to add to their lead in the middle frame. Second-year forward Taylor Delahey picked up her third goal of the preseason to double Toronto's lead to 2-0. Toronto kept their foot on the gas as the period progressed with fourth-year defender Emma Potter scoring her fourth goal of the preseason to add to the lead after two periods of play.

The third period saw the Blues continue to stand tall as they were able to close out the game and secure the win. The Lancers had a player advantage with the goalie pulled but the Blues prevailed when fourth-year forward Aili McKeown fired the puck into the empty net to add insurance and extend the Blues lead to 4-0.

First-year goaltender Lyla McKinnon stood tall in net and secured her fourth win and first shutout of the preseason.

The Blues will finish up the preseason on Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon when they take on the Western Mustangs in London, Ont. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m.
