BLUES SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE IN GUELPH

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team fell 18-2 in a CUFLA playoff showdown with the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday (Oct. 27) afternoon in Guelph.

Toronto entered the postseason matchup as the six seed in the CUFLA West division, finishing the regular season with a 4-7 record. With that, they matched up with the undefeated CUFLA West No. 1 seed Gryphons, who completed a perfect 11-0 regular season.

In the Sunday afternoon contest, Toronto were able to hang in with the top seed through the first quarter of action, trailing just 2-1. Fourth-year midfield Benny Konishi scored the lone first period marker for the Blues.

However, the home team came to life in the second frame, and from there would go on to score eight unanswered goals before first-year Blues midfielder Alexander May was able to get one back for U of T early in the third quarter. Guelph would continue to shine though offensively and booked their ticket to the Baggataway Cup with the victory.

A solid season for the Blues, U of T returned to the postseason following after just one-year of missing out in 2023. With a core of young talent, Toronto will look to build off the playoff effort and return for 2025 better than ever.
