U OF T ROWING EARNS THREE MEDALS AT OUA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues rowing teams earned three individual medals at the 2024 OUA Championships on Friday (Oct. 26).

Topping the Blues results on the day, the crew of Dayun Kong, Guinevere Reaume, Olivia Ruffolo, Daniella Caldwell, Vanessa Lin, Laura Valeria Rosales Vazquez, Elena Eberhardt, Sophie Corradini, and cox Katherine Myler captured silver in the Women's Lightweight 8+ event, posting a time of 6:59.655. Meanwhile, the duo of Eberhardt and Corradini  also paired together to bring home a bronze in the Women's Lightweight 2x, with a time of 6:44.488. Rounding out the Blues medals, with Myler once again serving as cox, the crew of Elizabeth Yeoh, Emily Boeva, Ruffolo, and Rosales Vazquez finished third in the Women's Lightweight 4+ with a time of 8:05.657.

On the men's side of the event, the Blues came ever so close to reaching the podium in several events, highlighted by a pair of fourth place finishes. Continuing to build on their strong season together, the pair of Noah Campbell and Jackson Bon finished fourth in the Men's 2x race, posting a time of 6:50.020. The foursome of Kalan Couch, Kamal Elboghdadi, Sebastien Psarianos, and Devansh Singhi, with cox Jack Edwards, placed fourth in the Men's 4+ in a time of 6:44.488.

In the team standings, the Toronto men finished third overall with a point tally of 111 points, trailing just the champion Brock Badgers (171) and second place Western Mustangs (165). Meanwhile, the women just missed out on a Top 3 team result, finishing four points back of the Guelph Gryphons (118) in fourth place with 114. Queen's won the women's team championship with 172 total points, while Western placed second with 152.

The OUA Championship event, originally scheduled to take place over two-days, was shortened to just the entirety of the day Friday, following high-wind warnings in the weekend forecast.

The fall schedule will continue for the Blues with the Canadian University Rowing Championships (CURC) still to take place in Victoria, B.C. The national event is set for Nov. 1-3.
