In a highly competitive match, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team narrowly fell to the McMaster Marauders 3-0 in a three-set match on Friday (Oct. 25) night at Goldring Centre.
Despite their resilience, the Blues were outlasted by McMaster, who clinched the sets 25-23, 27-25, and 27-25.
Toronto started strong, with standout performances from outside hitters Julia Murmann and Giulia Chimilovski. Murmann recorded eight kills and nine digs, while Chimilovski led the team with a .348 hitting percentage, tallying 10 kills and contributing crucial points throughout the match. Setter Robin Melnick also demonstrated her playmaking skills, distributing 32 assists and keeping Toronto's offence fluid and competitive.
The Blues pushed each set to the limit, showcasing their defensive prowess with 60 team digs, led by libero Delaney Watson with 14 digs. Toronto's front line held its own, putting up six total blocks to challenge McMaster's offence. However, the Maraduers attackers, led by Sullie Sundara and Emma McKinnon, managed to find the edges, racking up a combined 24 kills.
