TRIO OF BLUES NAMED WOMEN'S RUGBY ALL-STARS

As announced by the OUA on Wednesday (Oct. 23) afternoon, a trio of Varsity Blues women's rugby players in Bailey Froese, Emma Yang, and Mary Adewa have all been recognized as OUA second team all-stars.

In her first season with the Blues, Froese stepped right into a starting position after shifting to the wing for U of T. The Red Deer, Alta. native served as a critical defensive player, providing a strong tackling ability to the Toronto back-line, while also showcasing sure hands during opposition breakouts. Froese started in all six regular season games scoring three tries in Toronto's regular season finale at York, while also scoring a try for the Blues in their OUA quarter-final match versus Brock.

A fourth-year veteran with the Blues, Yang led the team in scoring with seven total tries for 35 total points throughout the regular season. The scrum-half was able to always provide the Blues with a chance to score courtesy her breakaway speed. Yang was especially impressive when weaving in-and-out of the oppositions defence, which allowed her to tally multiple tries in all three U of T wins this season.

Earning OUA all-star recognitions for the second time in her career, previously receiving the honour in 2021, Adewa jumped back into the Blues starting lineup in the second game of the season and served as a stalwart on the inside for Toronto throughout the remainder of the fall. In addition to finding the try zone in late season wins over Trent and York, the prop also was a standout defensively with tremendous tackling.
