The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team fell to the TMU Bold on Friday (Oct. 18) night 3-2, with set scores of 25-18, 17-25, 25-22, 23-26, 12-15).
The Blues came out strong in the first set, led by Julia Murmann, who recorded four aces in the set. Murmann contributed a team-high 16 kills and 17 digs throughout the entire game. Giulia Chimilovski added ten kills, and Lani Facey recorded five kills on a .714 hitting percentage.
After the Bold took the second set by eight points, the Blues responded by winning the third set 25-22, in part to Chimilovski's attacks and Melnick's play. Melnick recorded 42 assists in the match.
TMU fought back in the fourth set, narrowly gaining a 26-23 edge in the fourth set before coming out on top 15-12 in the decisive fifth set. Scarlett Gingera led the Bold with 18 total points and 15 kills, with Hannah Bellai picking up 14 kills of her own.
Toronto closes out their preseason on Saturday, October 18 against the Western Mustangs. First serve at the Goldring Centre is scheduled for 2 p.m.
