The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team fell 61-6 to the No. 5 Western Mustangs at Varsity Stadium on Friday night (Oct. 11).
The Mustangs set the tone early, scoring 15 points in the first quarter, including a touchdown by running back Keanu Yazbeck and a touchdown pass from quarterback Evan Hillock to Seth Robertson. The Mustangs offence added 26-points in the second quarter, taking a 41-0 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Blues recorded two field goals by way of veteran kicker, Sam Henke. The Franklin, Tenn native connected from 35 and 41 yards to get the Blues on the scoreboard. However, turnovers and penalties plagued Toronto, while Western's defence capitalized with multiple interceptions, including a pick-six by Simon King in the fourth quarter.
Blues fourth-year safety Owen Cassie recorded five tackles in the loss.
The Blues will play their final game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 19 vs. the Ottawa Gee-Gees at Gee-Gees Field in Ottawa.
