The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team fell 49-7 in their regular season finale versus the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday (Oct. 19) afternoon in Ottawa.
The Blues fell to 1-7 (W-L) on the season, while Ottawa improved to 4-4 to secure a postseason position.
On the field for Saturday, the U of T defence was put to the test early, however a strong stand held the home side to just a field goal in the opening frame. Throughout the game, all three levels of the Blues defence chipped in with linebacker Dylan Fallavollita leading the way with a team-high seven tackles. On the defensive line Jeremy Sinclair registered 5.5 total tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss, while in the defensive backfield Owen Cassie delivered several big hits for 4.5 tackles. Cassie's 21 tackles this season saw him surpass 100 career tackles in his fourth season as a Blue.
Shifting to the offence, Sam Colby made the start at quarterback, tallying 133 passing yards on a 16-for-28 performance, adding 30 rushing yards on five carries. Toronto found the end zone in the fourth quarter courtesy a 13-yard connection between Colby and standout receiver Jake Oseen. Oseen's six receptions for 63 yards lifted him above 300 total yards on the season and 800 career receiving yards.
Toronto's season comes to a close following the road loss. Following a brief break, the Blues will commence offseason training, while head coach Darrell Adams will have a chance at a full offseason for Toronto's next recruiting class.
