The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell to the Queen's Gaels 81-69 on Saturday (Jan. 20) evening at the Golding Centre Kimel Family Field House.
The Blues battled hard in the first quarter against the No. 4 nationally-ranked Gaels, trailing Queen's by five at the end of the quarter (22-17). The Gaels pushed back in the second quarter, outscoring Toronto 22-11, extending their lead to 16 points (44-28).
Despite the deficit, the Blues offence was on point in the second half, outscoring Queen's in the third (20-18) and fourth quarter (21-19). Despite their best efforts, Toronto fell to Queens with a final score of 81-69.
Leading the Blues was Ougrinov who scored a team-high 25 points, along with her four rebounds and five assists. Forward Gabby Reed picked up her first double-double of the season, recording 17 points and 12 rebounds.
For the Gaels, Julia Chadwick led the team scoring a game-high of 28 points and 15 rebounds.
Up next, the Blues face off against the Algoma Thunderbirds on Saturday, January 27. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the action being streamed online at oua.tv
